CUSA Statement on the Threats Made Against Syrian Expats Abroad
NEW YORK – After months of Syrian protest against the Assad regime, it has become apparent that Syrian’s brutal regime is now trying to silence protestors around the world. News of people like Mohamad Anas Haitham Soueid, 47, a Syrian-born American citizen intimidating and threatening pro-democracy protestors are now becoming apparent.
“After more than 2900 people killed in Syria in its people’s struggle for democracy, Assad’s thugs are trying to use their intimidation tactics on Syrian expats.” Hamdi Rifai, Chair of CUSA, said today. “We want to work together with all governments and law agencies to ensure the protection of expats living outside of Syria today and commend the actions of the Hague, the US and Canada to ensure intimidation and threats from the Assad’s Syrian regime do not go unpunished.”
